2017 GHSMPA Telethon Raised $5,246
Congrats to all of the folks involved with last night’s Greenfield High School Music Parents Association (GHSMPA) Telethon to support local music education. If you wanted to help but didn’t have a chance to call in, you can still send a check (made out to GHSMPA) to P. O. Box 394, Greenfield, MA 01302. Our staff really enjoys working on this event with GHS students and adults every year and we know the funds raised are extremely important.
In addition giving young musicians a chance to perform on television as soloists and in small ensembles, money earned during the program is used to transport the band and chorus to various festivals and competitions throughout the school year. Several of the parents have been on the crew for many years and now don’t need a lot of help from our staff in order to get their setup started. In fact, one of them became a volunteer sound operator for Valley Homegrown because he’d learned so much from us during his first couple of years on the telethon!
Setup started a little early this year, with a bit of sound equipment being dropped off at 7:45PM on Wednesday. The real work began around 11AM Thursday when the director showed up to make sure we had all of the video clips and credits that would be needed during the show. Microphones and monitors began to fill our studio at 1PM, while our new media producer ran cables for the phone bank. More volunteers and students started showing up around 3PM with instruments, set decorations, and photocopies of the performance order to post all around our offices. After a sound check at 5:30PM, things were off and running with the live broadcast from 6PM to 9PM. Everyone was exhausted but happy as they cleaned up and loaded out. Thank you to everyone who tuned in to Cable Channel 15, or watched the livestream here on our website, and called in with a donation.
