Yesterday afternoon, activists, Medicare beneficiaries, and local officials' representatives gathered on the Greenfield Town Common to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the law that created this landmark safety net.

To celebrate the anniversary of Medicare, which provides health insurance security to 55 million people, including 46 million people ages 65 and older and 9 million people younger than 65 who have permanent disabilities, having been signed into law on July 30, 1965, the Western Massachusetts Medicare Birthday Party Coalition will host a gathering on Greenfield's town common at 3:30PM on Thursday, July 30, 2015.
