Ways You Can Help This Holiday Season

Adapted from multiple press releases:

If you're in a position to be purchasing gifts for friends and relatives this month, how about sharing your bounty with those less fortunate?  Area nonprofits work hard year-round to provide basics to needy families, a job that's gotten more difficult as budget cuts and unemployment increase, but they are offering some special ways for you to get involved this holiday season.  For instance, the United Arc is asking for the community's help to raise $15,000 to support its rapidly growing food pantry; our local United Way has book, toy, and matching gift programs, and Greening Greenfield is participating in Valley Gives this coming Wednesday.

Scholarship Fundraiser This Weekend

Adapted from an Owen Clarke Scholarship Fund press release:

On Saturday, October 5th, The Greenfield Grille will host an art auction along with some of the finest music ever to come to town.  Many unusual items will be auctioned from every place imaginable.  Trevor Clarke and his trio, Bushwick, will open the night with a thirty minute set of jazz and originals.  Starting just after 8:00pm, Tim Kelliher from Orlando, and his touring band Skin N Bone, will return to debut new material from Tim's Hippy House studio.  The Jed Hover Revue will perform songs from Jed's sixth CD, with help from Tim and Trevor as well as Tumbleweed bassist and vocalist Mike Beausoleil.  Also joining Jed will be saxophonist Ron Pesky and internationally acclaimed drummer Steve Barbuto.  Please come down and join host Ginny Cleary for a wonderful cause and a fun time.

Academy Award Winner Invests in Local Hunger Project

This just in from a Stone Soup Cafe press release:

Academy Award winning actor Jeff Bridges announced today that he is pledging a matching grant up to $10,000 per year for three years to the Stone Soup Café in Greenfield.  To build awareness and support for hunger relief in Franklin County, the Stone Soup Café will host a screening of the new documentary starring Bridges called A Place at the Table, on Wednesday, April 24, at 6:30pm at the Greenfield Garden Cinema.  Bridges connected to the Pioneer Valley program through Zen Master Bernie Glassman, a resident of Montague, whose Zen Peacemakers started the Café in 2010.  The screening will be followed by a panel on the Café’s past and future with Bernie Glassman, Chef Isadora Sarto, and Executive Director Ari Pliskin.
