Bike Week 2016 is Almost Here!

Bay State Bike Week, a statewide celebration of bicycle transportation, is coming to Franklin County May 14th through May 22nd, and the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) will once again host a breakfast, on Tuesday, May 17th, from 7:30AM to 10AM, at the John W. Olver Transit Center (12 Olive Street in Greenfield), in order to give cyclists the opportunity to meet each other and share thoughts on bicycling in a fun and festive atmosphere.

FRCOG Gets Emergency Prep Contract for Western MA

Following a national trend, Massachusetts is making a major switch in regards to how it organizes its healthcare and public health emergency preparedness planning.  Starting in July, all of the hospitals, emergency medical services, community health centers, long term care facilities, and local board of health coalitions in Western Massachusetts will have their emergency preparedness planning and response work coordinated through the FRCOG in Greenfield.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) hopes this will provide for a more efficient and effective response from all public health and healthcare partners in the region during an emergency.

The Franklin Regional Council of Governments' (FRCOG) Citizen Corps Program will hold a training for medical and non-medical personnel who want to volunteer in times of disaster on Saturday, March 14th, from 9AM to 12:30PM at the Hawlemont Regional School (10 School Street) in Charlemont.

What are your transportation needs?  The FRCOG will be hosting two public meetings next month, to gather input on updates to our Regional Transportation Plan.  These Regional Transportation Plan Open Houses will be held at the John W. Olver Transit Center (12 Olive Street) in Greenfield on February 4th, from 6PM to 7:30PM, and February 12th, from 2PM to 3:30PM.

Mass Environmental Trust Supports Water Protection Work

Local residents who wonder what the Commonwealth’s “Preserve the Trust” environmental license plates support need look no further than Greenfield to see an example.  The Franklin Regional Council of Governments recently received a Mass Environmental Trust (MET) grant to reduce storm water runoff in Greenfield, with the work funded by license plate sales.

FRCOG Offers Selectboard 101 Workshop

Medical Reserve Corps Seeks Volunteers

The Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) will be running trainings for medical and non-medical personnel who want to volunteer in times of disaster.  Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers assist in emergencies such as catastrophic incidents, mass vaccinations, and prophylaxis for potential epidemics.  Roles are assigned depending on the  license and qualifications of the volunteer but even those without licenses can help in numerous ways.
