The Riverside Blues, Brews, & BBQ Festival returns to Greenfield for an 8th year on Saturday, October 6th, at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Hosted by the Greenfield Recreation Department and Lefty’s Brewing Company, the festival features a Northeast Barbecue Society Grilling Contest, Kansas City Barbeque Society BBQ Contest, Lefty’s Brewing Company Brew Tent, live blues music, People’s Choice BBQ Samplin’ Pit, vendors, contests, and more.

Winter Carnival is Almost Here!

Winter Carnival returns for its 95th year this Friday, February 3rd, through Sunday, February 5th. Since its very beginnings, this event has brought the community together in celebration, in a time of year that can be long, cold, and dreary. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and advises the public to use caution on the drive home from work today, and for travel to destinations through the day tomorrow, as forecasters are calling for weather that includes a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow depending upon the region of the state.

The Riverside Blues, Brews, & BBQ Festival, held under the iconic Poet’s Seat Tower, returns for its 6th year on Saturday & Sunday, October 8th & 9th.  “We love to showcase one of the gems of Greenfield- Beacon Park.  It is a wonderful place, with the surrounding mountains and Poet Seat Tower standing above” says Greenfield Recreation Director, and event organizer, Christy Moore.  “It is especially beautiful at this time of year with all of the changing foliage.”

Make Your Voice Heard About Tolls

Next month, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will hold several public hearings regarding proposed gantry prices for its new All Electronic Tolling (AET) system that will go into use on the MassPike (Interstate 90), and in the Metropolitan Highway System tunnels, in October. Two of the hearings will take place in our area, on Tuesday, September 6th, in Worcester and Wednesday, September 14th, in Springfield, both meetings begin at 6:30PM.

Volunteers Needed & Roads Closed for Sunday Triathlon

The Greenfield Recreation Department would like people to know that it still needs volunteers for the 33rd Annual Greenfield Lightlife Triathlon being hosted this Sunday, August 7th, from 8AM to Noon, at the Green River Swimming Area, and that some roads will be closed to accomodate the race.  Over 350 tri-athletes from all over New England and beyond are expected to compete and raise money for the many programs and special events that the recreation department puts on each year.

MA Low Number Plate Lottery Now Online!

Registrar of Motor Vehicles Erin Deveney announced Friday that applications for the 2016 Low Number Plate Lottery are now being accepted. In addition, for the first time ever, customers will be able to enter the lottery online by visiting: https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/myPlateLotto/. Mail-in applications are also available for download at www.MassRMV.com or at registry offices across the Commonwealth. Applications must be received online, or be postmarked, by August 26, 2016 in order for an applicant to be eligible.

Winter Carnival Traffic Advisory

The Greenfield Recreation Department would like to remind people that tonight's Winter Carnival Parade of Lights will begin precisely at 6PM, at Newton School, and arrive at Beacon Field around 6:30PM, after winding its way through downtown.  Motorists are asked, if possible, to avoid Main and Federal Streets during the parade.  In addition, spectators should be aware that some streets and parking areas around Beacon Field will be closed.
