Get Help Preparing for Your Child's IEP Meeting

The United Arc and Massachusetts Families Organizing for Change (MFOFC) are sponsoring two free workshops for parents and professionals to help them through the Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting process.  "Getting it Done!  Preparing for Your Child's IEP Meeting" will be held on Wednesday, September 21st, in Turners Falls and again on Thursday, October 13th, in Athol.  Guest speaker Ingrid Flory, of MFOFC, will offer strategies to help participants have a productive IEP meeting, contribute directly to the plan, get their concerns addressed, and clearly communicate their vision and priorities.

Help Say Farewell to United Arc's Ed Porter

On August 26th, from 4PM to 7PM, at Terrazza Ristorante, The United Arc invites the community to say "Bon Voyage" to its executive director after 39 years at the post. Ed Porter, who has served The United Arc since 1976, performed a variety of roles over the years, as programs offered by the organization expanded and adapted to the changing needs of the intellectual and developmental disability community. He leaves The Arc after completing a long-awaited move of its administrative offices, Franklin Family Support Center, and Positive Parenting Resource Center to Avenue A in Turners Falls.  Terrazza Ristorante is located at the Country Club of Greenfield, 244 Country Club Road, and no RSVP is required to attend the party.

United Arc Auction Saturday

Help The United Arc celebrate its 14th Annual Spring Auction on March 14th from 4PM to 7PM at Greenfield Community College in the Cohn Family Dining Commons! All proceeds benefit critical support services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Western Massachusetts. Suggested admission is just one non-perishable food or toiletry item for The United Arc's food pantry.

Advocate for People with Disabilities

The United Arc invites the community to attend its 2nd Annual Legislative Breakfast this Friday, February 13th, from 8:30AM to 11AM, at 294 Avenue A in Turners Falls.  The event will include a light continental breakfast and time to speak with legislators.

United Arc Sponsors Positive Behavioral Supports Training

On Monday, November 17th, from 5PM to 8PM, the United Arc's Family Center in Turners Falls will offer Positive Behavioral Supports training for friends, family members, and support persons of people with autism.  In addition to a discussion about the strengths and challenges often associated with individuals on the autism spectrum, the workshop will include information about how to assess the intent behind "challenging behaviors", strategies that utilize individual strengths and learning styles to teach desired behaviors, and how a person's quality of life impacts their wellbeing and influences their behavior.

Do you worry about a family member's future financial wellbeing?  The United Arc's Family Center is sponsoring two trainings this fall for guardians of people with developmental disabilities.  These workshops will help families learn about the special-needs trust and why it’s one of the most effective ways to protect individuals living with a disability when their parents or guardians can no longer care and advocate for them.

The United Arc's Family Center is sponsoring two workshops this month for for families of persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.  "Building Relationships & Building Community" will take place on Thursday, March 20th, at 10am, and "A Decision-Making Workshop for Families with a Family Member who has Special Needs" is scheduled for Friday, March 28th, at 6pm.  Both workshops will be held at The United Arc in Turners Falls.
