Learn About Edible Heirlooms This Weekend

June 23-24, 12-4:30 p.m., drop in anytime, History Workshop Garden

Learn about heirloom vegetables and have fun outdoors as you help us plant and tend the History Workshop Garden.  Find out what makes something an "heirloom," and learn about some of the vegetables that were important to the diet of early New Englanders.  You can plant a seed to take home, make a trellis out of natural materials to help your plant grow, and also take away a recipe booklet for your harvest.  Included with general admission.

2nd Annual Mutton & Mead This Weekend

The Mutton & Mead Tavern is hosting its annual festival for your enjoyment! Come partake in merriment and play as our shire transports you to another time: Merchants hawking their wares, Games to test the skills of both children and adults, Stages showcasing the realm’s finest entertainers! Wander the streets listening to minstrels infusing the air with music. Meet Robin Hood and his Merry Men as well as Maid Marian! But watch out for the Sheriff!  Mutton and Mead is a fundraiser for the Montague Grange and the Foodbank of Western Mass. Bring non-perishable food to donate at the gate!  Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th, 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM daily, 210 Turners Falls Road, Montague, MA 01351.

2012 Fireworks Collection Starts Today!

From a Greenfield Recreation Department press release:

The Greenfield Recreation Department and the Recreation Commission will be on the intersection of Main & Federal streets collecting Fireworks donations from Monday, June 18th to Tuesday, July 3rd from 12:00-1:00 PM and 5:00-6:00 PM. Please support this community-wide celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 7th, with a rain date of July 8th.

New Race: Bernardston, MA, Soapbox Derby!

From a Montague Soapbox Derby press release:

Saturday, July 14, 2012, 12:00 pm until 03:00 pm -- check-in starts at 9:00.  This race is part of the town's 100th anniversary celebration.  As such, it may be the ONLY YEAR this race happens.  Registration is closing soon!  Go to their website and register before you miss out!  The track is Hucklehill Road.  About a half-mile of down-hill fun...possibly even longer.  They haven't set the start and end, but we're told that cars can reach speeds of about 50mph from a dead-stop at the top.

Celebrate Summer: Nature, Music, & Dance!

On Thursday, June 21, Second Congregational Church, Court Square, Greenfield is hosting a FREE day of fun activities for ages 4 – 13.  It will be held from 9:00 -4:00 p.m. with lunch provided.  The Church and Education Group feels that children should be able to have a fun-packed day where they can try new activities, or revisit familiar ones, with no pressure, so three different fun offerings, all led by professionals, will be presented.
