Greenfield Town Council Meeting --- August 16, 2017

Wednesday night's five hour meeting began with three hours of public comment, mostly relating to a proposed "Safe City" ordinance.  Next, councilors voted down that ordinance, approved various appointments, debated ballot and zoning questions, and held a frank discussion about the Greenfield Center for Energy & Technology (GCET).

Gun Safety & Shooting Course in Deerfield

On Sunday, March 19th, from 9AM until 6PM, the National Rifle Association (NRA) Phase 2 Basic Pistol Shooting Course will be offered at the Franklin County Sportsmen's Club. Please note that Massachusetts does not currently accept this course as a qualifying class for a MA License to Carry (LTC) but it is appropriate for those looking for live fire pistol instruction from an NRA certified instructor.

Remember, Gun Buyback Tomorrow!

Rep. Mark Brings Public Safety Chair Naughton to Town

Rep. Paul Mark will host the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, Rep. Harold Naughton, at weekly office hours in Greenfield on Monday, July 15, from 1 to 3pm.  Rep. Naughton will be in Greenfield as part of a statewide listening tour on gun bills that are currently before the Public Safety Committee in the state legislature.  Area residents are welcome to attend this session and offer their thoughts on the various gun bills before the Public Safety Committee directly to Chairman Naughton.

HRC Begins Pre-K Initiative

From a Greenfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) press release:

On Monday, April 8, 2013, at 6:00 PM in the Greenfield Town Hall meeting room, the Greenfield Human Rights Commission will initiate an Early Childhood Education Initiative based upon President Obama's proposed universal Pre-K program. This entails, among other parts, Universal Pre-School, increased support and eligibility for Head Start, Early Learning Challenge Grants and Child Care Development Block Grant programming. The Commission will begin a process of educating the community about the pending legislation proposed by the President, potentially advocating for it among our representatives in the Congress and highlighting the needs of our own community in this regard. Specifically the needs of Greenfield families and the children of Greenfield who may benefit from such programs in both the short and long term.

HRC Begins Gun Violence Reduction Initiative

From a Greenfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) press release:

In response to the call of national and state leaders for community dialogue in the wake of the December 14, 2012, tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the Greenfield Human Rights Commission will initiate a Gun Violence Reduction Initiative beginning on Monday, January 14, 2013, at 6:00 PM in the Greenfield Town Hall second floor meeting room. It is anticipated that the Initiative will encompass at least the next several months.
