Nurturing Program for Families in Recovery

Starting September 8th, The Salasin Center will once again offer a 16 week series of The Nurturing Program for families in addiction recovery.  This is a highly acclaimed program dealing with the many challenges of parenthood.  It will take place on Tuesdays, from 1PM to 2:30PM, at The Salasin Center in Greenfield.  There is no cost to participants, and childcare will be available, however, pre-registration is required.

BFMC Again Offers Yoga for Cancer Survivors

Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Oncology Department will present a free, 8 week, yoga class, Gentle Yoga for Cancer Survivors, at the YMCA of Greenfield, on Wednesdays from September 2nd through October 21st, from 12PM to 1:30PM.  The course facilitator is Pam Roberts, a 20-year breast cancer survivor and certified Kripalu Yoga teacher.  Ms. Roberts is also a certified Yoga of the Heart for Cardiac and Cancer Patients instructor.

Free Sports Medicine Clinic at BFMC

Baystate Rehabilitation Care at BFMC will sponsor the 13th annual Coaches’ Education Clinic, "Above the Waist", on Thursday, July 30th, from 5PM to 9PM, in the hospital's main conference rooms.  During this free sports medicine clinic, experts will discuss topics that pertain specifically to keeping young athletes safe and healthy.

Get a Massage, Help a Library!

This Saturday, July 11th, 3 local healing arts practitioners will be offering on-site seated bodywork at several area libraries to raise funds for those organizations as well as awareness of the benefits of bodywork.  In exchange for a relaxing, refreshing, 15-minute seated bodywork session, the public will be asked to make a $15 suggested donation to the library they visit.  These events are part of EveryBodyDeserves a Massage Week, sponsored by Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP), the nation’s largest massage therapy and bodywork professional membership organization.

Register Now for Free Skin Cancer Screening

May is National Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and Awareness Month.  To help raise awareness, the Oncology Department at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Joel Gordon, MD, dermatologist, will co-sponsor a free skin cancer screening on Friday, May 29th, from 2PM to 4:30PM, in the BFMC Oncology Department.  During the screening, Dr. Gordon will examine new growths that are less than one year old; as well as old growths that have changed in color, size, shape, or pain level, or are causing irritation or bleeding.  The screening is not intended for individuals with skin rashes or for those who have seen a dermatologist in the past year.
