Adapted from a MassDOT press release:
Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 25 of the Acts of 2009, provides in section 173 that the western section of the Massachusetts Turnpike shall be operated and maintained free of tolls when all notes and bonds issued by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) have been paid, which is anticipated to occur in January of 2017, and the turnpike is deemed to be in good condition and repair to the satisfaction of said department. In preparation for this, the MassDOT Highway Division will host 4 public meetings to present and discuss its Triennial Review (State of Good Repair) report for the turnpike and the report's impact on the status of tolls after January 2017.
