Oh Beautiful Star! RESCHEDULED

Due to the December 14th snowstorm, the 75-member Greenfield Harmony Community Chorus will now hold its annual holiday concert on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 22ND, at 7PM.  It will still take place at Wesley Methodist Church (98 Maple Street) in Hadley, a beautiful new church with vaulted ceilings known for its extraordinary acoustics. Led by Mary Cay Brass, Greenfield Harmony is a multi-generational chorus that performs an eclectic mix of community-based music from many cultural and musical traditions.

Pioneer Valley Ballet Offers Free Classes for Young Children

Pioneer Valley Ballet (PVB) is hosting its Fall Open House on August 24, 2013.  This free event will take place from 11am-1pm at their ballet studio in Easthampton, at the Eastworks Building, 116 Pleasant St., Suite 155.  Attendees will have opportunities to meet staff, tour the studio, register for school-year training programs, register to audition for The Nutcracker, and observe PVB’s advanced dancers in rehearsal.

Music in Deerfield Presents Escher String Quartet

A classical music ensemble celebrated for its “dark ambrosial brew all its own” (Boston Globe) and as “one of the top young quartets before the public today” (Washington Post), the Escher String Quartet will be presented by Music In Deerfield and the Smith College Music Department on Saturday at 8:00 PM, December 15, at Sweeney Concert Hall, Smith College. Concert Conversations, featuring quartet members discussing the program with WFCR's John Montanari, precedes the concert at 7:00 in nearby Earle Recital Hall.

On Saturday, December 15th, at 7:30 pm, at All Souls Unitarian Church, Greenfield Harmony will present their annual Holiday Concert.  Led by Mary Cay Brass, the choir will perform songs of joy, health, love, and peace from S. Africa, Cuba, Israel, Macedonia, and the British Isles, as well as American folk and gospel music.

Live, Local, Music

If you haven’t tuned in to “Valley Homegrown” lately, you don’t know what you’re missing!  The show has been on, in various incarnations, since 1997 and many musicians featured on the program are well known today; The Nields and Ray Mason spring immediately to mind, as does Naia Kete.  In fact, of the nineteen winners in this year’s Valley Advocate Grand Band Slam, seven have done live performances in our studio.

Music in Deerfield Brings Richard Goode to Valley

An evening of some of the most profound and sublime music ever, will take place on Saturday, September 29 in Northampton, when Music In Deerfield and the Smith College Music Department present pianist Richard Goode, performing late Beethoven masterworks. The concert takes place at 8:00 pm at Sweeney Concert Hall, Smith College. Laura Siersema Trio to Play 1794 Meetinghouse

The Laura Siersema Trio (Laura Siersema, vocals, keyboard/piano; Billy Klock, drums; Wim Auer, fretless bass) will be playing the 1794 Meetinghouse, North Quabbin's Center for the Performing Arts, on Sunday, July 8th, at 4PM.  It's a beautiful spot and one of the best places to hear live music you'll ever experience.

Monday night’s “Valley Homegrown” show got our week off to a rockin’ start!  The band Superkart entertained audiences in the studio and at home during their live broadcast.  Several volunteers mentioned that it was a really good show.  If you missed it, you can watch it here.
