Mass Environmental Trust Supports Water Protection Work

Adapted from a Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) press release:

Local residents who wonder what the Commonwealth’s “Preserve the Trust” environmental license plates support need look no further than Greenfield to see an example.  The Franklin Regional Council of Governments recently received a Mass Environmental Trust (MET) grant to reduce storm water runoff in Greenfield, with the work funded by license plate sales.

Robert Strong Woodward Exhibit in Deerfield

Adapted from a Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association press release:

From September 15 to October 8, 2012, an exhibition of paintings by New England artist Robert Strong Woodward (1885-1957) will take place at the Memorial Hall Museum in Old Deerfield.  At the age of 21, Woodward accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun and was permanently paralyzed from the waist down.  He settled in Buckland, MA, on his uncle's farm and turned to painting.  In his lifetime, Woodward painted around 600 oils and 285 known chalks.  Some were purchased by celebrities George Burns and Gracie Allen, Jack Benny, Oliver Wendall Holmes, Jr., poet Robert Frost, and actress Beulah Bondi.  Through his landscapes, barn paintings and window pictures, Woodward documented a passing New England.
