Yellow Ribbon Ceremony for Sgt. Bergdahl

Mayor William Martin has announced plans for a special noontime service on Wednesday, October 30, to commemorate the ongoing prisoner of war status of Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl, presently held captive in Afghanistan. The ceremony will commence at 12:00 p.m. at the Veterans Mall in Greenfield and will feature guest speaker Ted Aub, Connecticut State Coordinator for the National League of POW/MIA Families. Mr. Aub is also a member of the CT State Veterans Task Force and the Housatonic Marine League and volunteers at state VA hospitals and with various veterans’ support groups.

Greenfield Resident Helps Battle Quebec Blazes

Yesterday, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) sent 15 state and municipal wildland firefighters to Quebec, Canada, to help battle fires that have raged across more than one million acres in the province since June.

Town Hires New Staff

The Town of Greenfield now has a Facilities Manager and two new police officers.  George VanDelinder, PE, Officer Jeremy Felton, and Officer Emily Roswell have joined the ranks of town employees.

Veterans Day 2012

From a Greenfield Veterans Services press release & a Friendly's press release:

*All are invited to the Greenfield Veteran’s Day Parade on Monday, November 12, 2012 as well as to the services afterward in the Veterans’ Mall on Main Street.  The Town is hosting the parade on the observed holiday as opposed to Sunday the 11th in order to avoid conflicting with church services taking place along the parade route.  The parade will form in the Middle School parking lot at 9:30 a.m., and will start at 10 a.m.  Transportation will be provided to veterans as needed.

*In the spirit of Veteran’s Day celebrations on November 12, Friendly’'s restaurants located in the Greenfield area invite active members of the military and military veterans to come in and enjoy a complimentary Big-Two-Do Breakfast and coffee until 11:00 am –as a thank-you for their service.

Greenfield Resident Fights Idaho Blazes

Greenfield resident Seth McMahon is among twenty wildland firefighters that the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) sent to Idaho this morning to help battle the Trinity Ridge Fire that has raged across more than 37,000 acres in the Boise National Forest since last week.
