Glitter Jar Making Workshop

In honor of Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, the Salasin Center and the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition (NELCWIT) are co-hosting a free Self-Care Glitter Jar Making Workshop on Wednesday, April 19th, from 5PM to 7PM, at the RPX (1 Osgood Street) in Greenfield.  Snacks will be provided, all adults are welcome to attend, and pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

New Grief Support Groups Start Soon

If you are dealing with loss, Hospice of Franklin County wants you to know that two support groups will soon be available to help you.  "Grief & the Holidays" will focus on coping with this season following the death of a loved one and "Loss of a Loved One from Substance Abuse" is specifically for people who experienced the death of their loved one at least three months ago.

Learn Healthy Eating Habits

In September and October, Baystate Health Dietitian Alicia Walter, MS, RDN/LDN, will be focusing on "Mindful Eating/Learning Healthy Eating Habits of Mind" in the free, monthly, nutrition class that she teaches.  Though geared toward Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients, these sessions are open to the general public.  Each class will be held on a Wednesday, in Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Conference Room C, with 2 choices for timeslot.  Participants can either attend from 10:15AM to 11:15AM or from 11:30AM to 12:30PM.

Still Time to Register for Wheeling for Healing

Registration is still open for the 9th annual Wheeling for Healing bike/walk/run benefit on Sunday, August 21st, that will start and end at Greenfield Community College (GCC).  The event features 3 different rides:  a 10-mile route through the Greenfield meadows; a moderate 25-mile ride through Bernardston, Gill, Turners Falls, and Greenfield; and a challenging 50-mile route that goes up into the hills of Warwick and Wendell.  The walk/run course includes the GCC campus as well as neighboring streets, all within safe, low-traffic, areas.

Date Change for Next BFMC Nutrition Class

The upcoming installment of BFMC's free nutrition class with Baystate Health Dietitian Alicia Walter, MS, RDN/LDN, that was scheduled for Wednesday, August 3rd, will take place on Wednesday, July 27th, instead.  This month's topic will be Learn to be Supermarket Savvy.  As usual, the class will take place in Conference Room C at the hospital, from 10:15AM to 11:15AM and be repeated from 11:30AM to 12:30PM.

Our local hospital offers many classes on health related topics, as well as several monthly support groups, at no charge to the public.  In July, there will be an opportunity to learn about a dietary approach to stopping hypertension in addition to meetings for caregivers, stroke survivors, amputees, and their friends and family.
