2014 Wheeling for Healing Registration Now Open

Do what you love to do while helping raise funds for Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s cancer programs and services.  Registration is now open for BFMC’s seventh annual Wheeling for Healing bike ride benefit that will take place on Sunday, August 24th, starting and ending at the White Eagle Polish Picnic Ground (249 Plain Road) in Greenfield.

Changes & July Events at The Salasin Center

The Salasin Center, which encompasses the Greenfield Women's Resource Center (GWRC) and the Family United Network (FUN), is happy to announce the hiring of a new staff member, Elizabeth Dlugosz.  The center also wants the community to know that there will be no family dinner/dance nights in July and the facilities will be closed July 21-25.

Tick Talk: What You Can do About Lyme Disease

This community forum exploring the prevalence of Lyme disease, prevention, and treatment will be broadcast live on GCTV Cable Channel 15, and streamed live here on gctv.org, on Tuesday, June 17th, from 6PM to 8PM.  The event will be held at JFK Middle School in Northampton and will be hosted by the Daily Hampshire Gazette, WHMP Radio, and Northampton Community TV.

BFMC “Clinical Notes” Free Summer Concert

The Salasin Center, which encompasses the Greenfield Women's Resource Center (GWRC) and the Family United Network (FUN), has a lot going on this month!  In addition to the ongoing Parents Supporting Parents group and Journey Dance class, a Summer Solstice Celebration/Women's Open Mic Night will be held on June 20th and a family dance party will happen on the 26th.

There's a lot going on at Greenfield's hospital!  A hard-working Greenfield Community College Student has received a scholarship from the Baystate Franklin Auxiliary, the public is invited to a free Health & Safety Fair on June 5th (***THE LOCATION FOR THIS HAS CHANGED, read more for details***), and BFMC will be doing cholesterol screening on the 11th.

Future of BFMC Public Forum

The Community Health Care Initiative has invited representatives of Baystate Health to participate in a public forum on the future of our hospital on Thursday, May 29th, at 7PM, at Greenfield Middle School.  The forum will provide an opportunity for the community to learn about Baystate’s plans for developing services at Franklin Medical Center.

BFMC to Hold Skin Cancer Screening May 16th

The Oncology Department at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Joel Gordon, MD, dermatologist, will co-sponsor a free skin cancer screening on Friday, May 16th, from 2pm to 4:30pm, in the BFMC Oncology Department.  During the screening, Dr. Gordon will examine new growths that are less than one year old, as well as old growths that have changed in color, size, shape, and/or pain level or are causing irritation or bleeding.  The screening is not intended for individuals with skin rashes or for those who have seen a dermatologist in the past year.

World T'ai Chi Day 2014

Glaucoma Specialist to Speak at BFMC Senior Class Seminar

Senior Class at Baystate Franklin Medical Center will present "Glaucoma: the Silent Thief of Sight" on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6 – 7:30 pm, in the hospital’s main conference rooms. The guest speaker will be David Lotufo, MD, from Greenfield Eye and Lasik.  Dr. Lotufo’s discussion will focus on the various causes and treatments for glaucoma, the importance of early diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatments to control this silent “thief of sight”.
