Celebrate Valentine's Day at BFMC

Adapted from two Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) press releases:

In conjunction with BFMC's annual Chocolate Fantasy, featuring “chocolate everything”---a wide variety of chocolate items, raffles, silent auction, and Valentine-related local crafts, Clinical Notes (BFMC’s women's a cappella chorus) will present a free mini-concert of Love-ly Songs on Valentine’s Day.

The mini-concert will take place on Friday, February 14th, from 12:15 – 12:30 pm in the hospital’s main lobby and seating is limited.

The Chocolate Fantasy, put on by BFMC’s volunteers and members of the Baystate Franklin Auxiliary, will run from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm in the hospital’s main conference rooms.  The public is invited to “help combat the winter blahs with chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!”  Funds raised from the event will support BFMC’s Rehabilitation Department (physical and occupational therapy; speech and hearing).

“We always have a wish list,” said Jeff King, manager of BFMC’s Rehabilitation Department.  “Last year, we were able to purchase a Wii Fit program to enhance our physical and occupational therapy options for patients.  It has been a wonderful addition to our program.”  King continued,  “We are looking forward to ‘shopping’ once we receive the funds from this year’s Chocolate Fantasy.  We’re grateful to our volunteers for all the support they have given our department through this event.”

Sydney Ramey, chair of the Chocolate Fantasy committee, commented, “Many local organizations have graciously and generously donated chocolate items, from chocolate chip cookies, to chocolate covered apples, to truffles and fudge, and much more.  We have invited them to ‘think creatively’ as they consider what to send in for the sale.”

Students from the Culinary Arts Bakery Department at Franklin County Technical School will be on hand to decorate personalized cakes for you. For prices ranging from $8-$15 per cake, students will decorate your cake with colors and personalization you choose. Brenda Fortin, Franklin County Technical School's Culinary Art's Bakery instructor, said, “Our students are very excited about this opportunity to display their talents at the Chocolate Fantasy. We hope that patrons of the event will be equally as excited with their customized cakes.”

A highlight of this year’s Fantasy is the raffling of a “Lovers’ Log Cabin” quilt, hand-made and donated by Marjorie Reid, of Greenfield.  Perfect for Valentine’s Day, the 68” x 86” red and ivory colored quilt features ‘heart-felt’ inscriptions such as “love”, “cherish”, and “forever”---words designed to make your Valentine feel very special!   Raffle tickets are on sale now at the Baystate Franklin Auxiliary Gift Shop; you can also view this one-of-a-kind quilt in the Gift Shop Window.  Tickets are $5 each, 3/$10, 10/$20; the winner’s name will be drawn at 3 pm on Friday, February 14th.

We think we have a little something to offer for everyone who comes in from the cold to join us at the Chocolate Fantasy,” Ramey concluded.  “I would like to thank Marjorie Reid, BFMC staff and volunteers, and all the contributing businesses for helping make this a truly festive day for everyone!”
