Pioneer Valley Science & Sustainability Expo Schedule

Adapted from a Greening Greenfield press release:

Would you like to see young people’s visions of the future?  The Science and Sustainability Expo is a unique, intergenerational, non-commercial, educational event for youth and adults.   Taking place on Saturday, March 1st, from 9am-3:30pm, at the Greenfield Community College (GCC) dining common, it is designed to foster mutual inspiration and enthusiasm around sustainable living and sustainability education.

There will be over 50 displays this year that have been prepared by more than 100 students from schools up and down the Pioneer Valley.  Come for an hour or more and talk with 3rd through 12th graders, and others, about their projects.

Talk with students who have built Green Dollhouses and other projects.

Enjoy lunch ($) at the GCC cafeteria and see a demonstration by the UMass Chemistry Club (free).

Talk with students who have entered the KidWind Challenge & watch as their model wind turbines are tested in a wind tunnel.  Over twenty teams have built 3’ high wind turbines this year.

Tour GCC’s Sustainability projects.

Stay for the final KidWind awards ceremony.

Now in its third year, the Science and Sustainability Expo was created by Greening Greenfield to encourage teachers and home schoolers to engage youth in projects that foster mutual inspiration and understanding of sustainable living. The Expo is co-sponsored by Greenfield Community College, the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers, Pioneer Valley STEM net, The KidWind Project,, and the Hitchcock Center for the Environment. Greening Greenfield aims to use “greening” as the economic and inspirational engine to build a more sustainable Greenfield. For more information, call Susan Reyes at (413)-259-1658.
