2014 Scottish Festival to Take Place Saturday

Adapted from a Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival press release:

On Saturday, July 19th, Look Park in Northampton will come alive with the 21st Annual Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival.  There will be Highland dancers, pipers and drummers; a clan parade; sheep herding; Scottish dogs and other animals; wool spinners and weavers; and lively Celtic music.  Celebrate your Scottish heritage, real or coveted, with kilt-wearing, tree-tossing Scotsmen at the Highland athletic games and delight in plates piled high with scones, shortbread, bridies, or meat pies.

This family fun event includes children’s athletic games and a water spray park.  Many clans and a genealogist will be present to assist in tracing your Scottish ancestry. Vendors will be offering a variety of Scottish foods and imports.  Listen to the beautiful Celtic harp music of the Pioneer Valley Harpers’ Guild.  Learn about spinning and weaving from the Weavers’ Guild of Springfield.  Relive history with the Historic Highlanders.

From 9:45AM to 9:30PM, world class Celtic musicians Albannach, Prydein, The Cabeys, Charlie Zahm, The Bell Family, and Julie MacNayr Pike will present sets ranging from sweet, pure song and boisterous ballads all the way to fiery fiddling and full-blown Celtic rock & tribal drums.  Whether sitting in the Ceilidh Tent watching the show, quenching your thirst in the Celtic Pub with local microbrews, or just having a picnic on the grass nearby, plan on enjoying this great live Celtic music throughout the day.

The bulk of the festival runs from 9AM to 5PM, rain or shine, with music continuing until 9:30PM.  Look Park is located at 300 North Main Street in Florence, MA.  Regular tickets are $16 each, children ages 6 to 12 are $5 each, children under 6 are free.  More information:
