Glaucoma Specialist to Speak at BFMC Senior Class Seminar

Adapted from a Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) press releases:

Senior Class at Baystate Franklin Medical Center will present "Glaucoma: the Silent Thief of Sight" on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6 – 7:30 pm, in the hospital’s main conference rooms. The guest speaker will be David Lotufo, MD, from Greenfield Eye and Lasik.  Dr. Lotufo’s discussion will focus on the various causes and treatments for glaucoma, the importance of early diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatments to control this silent “thief of sight”.

A graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida, Dr. Lotufo completed his residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, New York Medical College, New York City, where he also completed a fellowship in glaucoma.  He became interested in ophthalmology at a young age, as the son of a sight-impaired father.  Dr. Lotufo explained, “My father brought me along to his ophthalmologist appointments, where I . . . was impressed with the technological tools used not only to diagnose eye diseases but to improve the overall health of a patient.”  As he got older, he knew he wanted to help try to prevent blindness, and realized that treating patients with glaucoma was the best way to achieve this goal.

There is no charge for the program and refreshments will be served, however, pre-registration is required.  To register, or for more information on joining Senior Class, call Baystate Health Link at 413-773-2454 or 1-800-377-4325.
