Greenfield Awarded Recycling Dividends Funds

Adapted from a Greenfield Mayor's Office press release:

In a letter from Maeve Vallely Bartlett, MA Department of Environmental Protection Secretary of Energy & Environmental Affairs, Mayor William Martin was informed on Tuesday that Greenfield will be awarded $2,800 as a result of the Greenfield Department of Public Works’ efforts with the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP).

Through SMRP’s Recycling Dividends Program, municipalities are given the opportunity to earn points by implementing specific programs and policies that maximize reuse, recycling, and waste reduction, with monies awarded based on the number of points a town earns.

Said Mayor Martin, “Janine Greaves, our recycling coordinator, has done a great job putting Greenfield at the forefront of current recycling practices. We will use these funds to further invigorate our status as a ‘Green Community’ with new recycling bins, community education and outreach campaigns, and highlighted recycling efforts in our schools, municipal buildings, and other public spaces. The best part is, each year holds the prospect of securing these funds as we all work together in our commitment to a more sustainable Greenfield.”
