Human Rights Commission to Addresses Heroin Crisis

Adapted from a Greenfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) press release:

The Greenfield Human Rights Commission will be holding a public hearing about the heroin crisis in Greenfield and Franklin County on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 6PM, in the Greenfield Town Hall meeting room.  Anticipated topics to be discussed include efforts being made to solve the problem and the proposed Behavioral Health Network recovery center slated for the former Lunt factory complex or an alternative site.  Marisa Hebble, Director of the Opioid Education and Awareness Task Force of Franklin County and North Quabbin, will be the guest speaker.

Lewis Metaxas, Chairman of the Greenfield Human Rights Commission, stated, "I believe that the state Department of Public Health is correct, when they say that from 2013 to 2014, only one year, nearly 300 individuals from Franklin County had to travel to another county for acute treatment services or clinical stabilization services. This is unacceptable for the people in our community seeking treatment and recovery. We seek to support the efforts of the Opioid Education and Awareness Task Force, the Behavioral Health Network, and the entire local recovery community in seeking to create a treatment and recovery resource center in Greenfield and Franklin County."

The commission invites the testimony and participation of all residents of Greenfield and Franklin County who may have an opinion in this regard.
