Help Say Farewell to United Arc's Ed Porter

Adapted from a The United Arc press release:

On August 26th, from 4PM to 7PM, at Terrazza Ristorante, The United Arc invites the community to say "Bon Voyage" to its executive director after 39 years at the post. Ed Porter, who has served The United Arc since 1976, performed a variety of roles over the years, as programs offered by the organization expanded and adapted to the changing needs of the intellectual and developmental disability community. He leaves The Arc after completing a long-awaited move of its administrative offices, Franklin Family Support Center, and Positive Parenting Resource Center to Avenue A in Turners Falls.  Terrazza Ristorante is located at the Country Club of Greenfield, 244 Country Club Road, and no RSVP is required to attend the party.

In honor of Ed's leadership and commitment to the community, The United Arc has established a fund in his name to support staff education and professional development. Throughout his career, Ed fostered an environment that encouraged employees to follow their education aspirations. From direct care staff to senior management, he  saw first-hand that providing opportunities for staff to broaden their knowledge directly impacted the quality of services they provided and helped them develop new ways to meet the changing needs of the intellectual and developmental disability community. The high quality of services, and the level of commitment employees continue to demonstrate in their work, is direct evidence of the fact that he instilled these ideals across the agency. In this spirit of excellence, The Ed Porter Fund will be used to provide financial assistance to staff who are pursuing professional certification or higher education, fund internal trainings and professional development opportunities, and create opportunities for staff innovation.

In order to sustain this fund for coming years, the agency must raise $10,000 and needs the support of the community to make it happen! To make a contribution to the Ed Porter Fund, please make checks payable to The United Arc, 294 Avenue A, Turners Falls, MA 01373 or give online at www.unitedarc.org.

For more information about the party or The Ed Porter Fund, please email Felicia Spiess or call her at (413) 774-5558 x1058
