News & Notes from BFMC

Adapted from several Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) press releases:

You can get so much done at our local hospital!  Buy your holiday gifts at their craft fair today and help support labratory services, get your cholesterol checked there next week, or enjoy a special a cappella concert on December 15th.

BFMC’s Annual Employee Artisans & Craft Fair
Friday, December 4th, from 8AM to 4PM
Main Conference Rooms & Lobby

This fair features unique hand-crafted items created by present and retired BFMC employees and volunteers.  The event also includes a silent auction and proceeds will benefit BFMC’s laboratory services.  “The BFMC Employee Artisans and Craft Fair is a great way to purchase locally crafted gifts while helping support our patient needs,” said Bill Levine of BFMC Laboratory, who co-chairs the craft fair with Mary Taggart of BFMC Patient Care Services.  Taggart added, “You can choose from wood-working, hand dyed silk scarves, jewelry, quilting, pottery, vintage fabric items, maple products, hand-made soaps and lotions, dried arrangements, herbal products, crocheted, knitted items, and much more.”

BFMC Laboratory Manager Carol Benoit, MT(ASCP), DC, said, “I am thrilled that the lab will be the recipient of donations from the craft fair this year. In these tough economic times, every expenditure is carefully considered; so an unexpected source of funds is quite welcome. Thank you for helping us to continue our great service to our patients!”

“Clinical Notes” Deck the Halls Free Holiday Concert
Tuesday, December 15th, 5:30PM to 6:30PM
Conference Rooms B/C

The hospital-based women’s a cappella chorus, under the direction of Kathryn Aubrey-McAvoy, will perform both traditional and contemporary holiday and secular music at this event. Clinical Notes was formed in 2003 by Phyllis Stone and Annginette Anderson, who shared a love of a cappella singing and a belief that music should be part of a healing environment. Though members have come and gone over the past 12 years, most of the singers have been in the group since its inception.

Clinical Notes performs 2 formal concerts yearly (around the winter and summer solstice) and sings at various hospital-related events, such as the annual Chocolate Fantasy, Nurses’ Week, and other celebrations. They have also performed during the Relay for Life “Sacred Gathering”, Hospice of Franklin County Tree-Lighting, the United Way A Cappella Festival, and the BFMC Follies.  For more information, contact Phyllis Stone, BFMC Development & Public Relations Office, (413) 773-2573 or
