Greening Greenfield Needs Your Support

Adapted from a Greening Greenfield press release:

It's that time of year again! Greening Greenfield's Annual Appeal campaign is going on right now and they want to thank area residents who've bolstered their efforts in the past and encourage everyone to contribute now to help build an even more sustainable community.  In addition, thanks to the generosity of SmallCorp, Just Roots, Zaccheo Properties, and 2 anonymous donors, all contributions made by December 18th will be matched dollar for dollar.

Successes so Far

We are pleased to report that Greening Greenfield is making great progress in helping to build community sustainability!  With your help…

*Sustainability is now an element of Greenfield’s identity.  The town now offers 100% green electricity to all Greenfield residents, our new energy efficient high school is complete, new LED street lights go on at sundown, solar panels from the Greenfield Solar Challenge are on roofs throughout town, people are taking advantage of the MassSave program and saving money on their utility bills, and an additional solar farm is in the works.

*The town’s Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee has been working to implement key elements of our Master Plan.

*Public art is making Greenfield a more visually interesting place.  Check out our recycled benches, new murals, banners designed by elementary school children on our light poles, and the “Brookie” sculpture in River Works Park.

Plans for the Future

But we are a long way from being done! In 2016, we will be...

*Offering our 6th annual film series concentrating on creating solutions to environmental challenges.

*Holding our 4th regional forum (in November) with the assistance of many regional leaders.

*Bringing sustainability into the classroom through our 5th annual Science & Sustainability Expo for middle and high school students (in March) and working with Greenfield 5th grade teachers and students and the Connecticut River Watershed Council on a water cycle unit that includes a deep understanding of our watershed.

*Working with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce to develop the EcoLiving Show (in April), with over 16 “green” workshops.

To do all this and more, we need your financial support. Our goal is to raise $8,000 by the end of 2015 and, with your help, we are confident that we can do it.  Greening Greenfield’s work has made a real difference in town and we hope that you will support our plans for 2016 by giving online. It’s easy!
