BFMC Again Offers Yoga for Cancer Survivors

Adapted from a Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) press release:

Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Oncology Department will present a free, 8 week, yoga class, Gentle Yoga for Cancer Survivors, at the YMCA of Greenfield, on Wednesdays, from January 6th through February 24th, 2016, from 12PM to 1:30PM.  The course facilitator is Pam Roberts, a 20-year breast cancer survivor and certified Kripalu Yoga teacher.  Ms. Roberts is also a certified Yoga of the Heart for Cardiac and Cancer Patients instructor.

These weekly Gentle Yoga classes are for individuals who have been living with a cancer diagnosis and consist of stretching, strengthening, breathing, and deep relaxation exercises.  “[The class has been] the best thing that has helped me after breast cancer,” said a participant.  Another member commented that the class was “beneficial to my body, mind and spirit.” Participants have found that the class helps with strengthening muscles and promoting relaxation.

The free yoga program has been made possible by Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Oncology Department and the YMCA in Greenfield.  It is funded by BFMC’s annual Wheeling for Healing Bike Event, which supports Oncology patients, programs, and services at Baystate Franklin.

If you are unable to take the class in January and February, additional classes will run March 2nd through April 20th and April 27th through June 15th.

For more information, or to register for Gentle Yoga, please contact Pam Roberts at (413) 625-2402 or
