Public Hearing Monday on Heroin Crisis

Adapted from a Greenfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) press release:

The Greenfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) will hold a public hearing on Monday, February 9th, at 6PM, in the Greenfield Town Hall meeting room, on the heroin crisis in Greenfield and Franklin County, the efforts being made to solve it, and the recovery center being proposed by Behavioral Health Network (BHN) to be located at the former Lunt factory complex.

The guest speaker invited by the commission will be Marissa Hebble, Executive Director of the Opioid Education and Awareness Task Force of Franklin County and North Quabbin.  The Commission seeks the input and opinions of the public about how to support efforts being made for recovery in the community at both the local and state levels.

Lewis Metaxas, chairman of the Greenfield Human Rights Commission, stated, "I believe that the state Department of Public Health is correct, when they say that from 2013 to 2014..only one year..nearly 300 individuals from Franklin County had to travel to another county for acute treatment services or clinical stabilization services. This is unacceptable for the people in our community seeking treatment and recovery. We seek to support the efforts of the Opioid Education and Awareness Task Force and Behavioral Health Network in creating a treatment and recovery resource center in Greenfield and Franklin County."
