Snow Cancellations & Parking Ban Info

The town has instituted a winter parking ban, and some government meetings & community activities have been canceled, due to the snowstorm.  However, the statewide travel ban has been lifted for Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire, & Franklin Counties and the State of Emergency (SOE) ends at 5PM 1/27 for Western Massachusetts.  Travel ban & SOE still in place for I-90 and the rest of the state.

SAFETY REMINDERS:

The town of Greenfield declared a local state of emergency at 4PM Monday, January 26th, that will run until further notice.  Due to expected winds and snowfall, there is a chance for loss of power. In the event of downed power lines, please avoid the area and alert public safety officials. We are asking that all residents and visitors stay off the roadways until Wednesday morning.  For any emergencies dial 911.

CANCELLATIONS:

*Greenfield Public Schools, municipal buildings, Franklin County Technical School (FCTS), Artspace, & the United Arc will be closed Tuesday.  Also, Greenfield rubbish collection will be delayed by a day.

*Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) services are canceled on Tuesday, January 27th.  They plan to resume at 9AM Wednesday.  More info here.

*The Greenfield Transfer Station will be closed on Tuesday, January 27th, and will re-open on Wednesday, January 28th, from 12:30PM to 2:30PM.

*The Consortium (The Salasin Center/Greenfield Women's Resource Center/Family United Network) let us know that they've canceled their Journey Dance class that was also scheduled for Tuesday.  If you would be interested in dancing Thursday or Friday, instead, please let them know what time works best for you by emailing lnorwood@wmtcinfo.org.  In addition, they'd like to remind you that, in general, if Greenfield Public Schools are closed then their programs are closed.

*GCTV's Board of Directors has canceled their annual meeting, which was scheduled for Tuesday, at 6PM, in our 1st floor space.

*The Greenfield School Committee Meeting that was slated for Tuesday, January 27th, at 6:30PM, in our studio has been canceled.

*Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus rehearsal for Tuesday night has been canceled.

*Dakin Humane Society will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday but can accept pets, beginning at 3PM Wednesday in Springfield, to be cared for in the event of extended power outages.  More info. from Dakin, about emergency planning for your pets, can be found here.

TOWN OF GREENFIELD WINTER PARKING BAN:

An Emergency Winter Parking Ban, prohibiting parking on BOTH sides of the street, is in effect from 10PM Monday, 1/26/15, through 8AM Wednesday, 1/28/15, on all residential streets.

There is no overnight parking in parking lots, except in designated areas of the Chapman/Davis Street Lot and Hope Street Lot. 

THE TOWN WILL HAVE ALL VEHICLES IN VIOLATION OF THE PARKING BAN TOWED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE.

Keep in mind that there is always a regular Winter Parking Ban, from December 1st to April 1st, that prohibits parking on the south and east sides of the street.  It also prohibits parking between the hours of 1AM and 6AM on any street or municipal parking lot.

MASSACHUSETTS DCR PARKING BAN:

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) has issued a parking ban, for all DCR roadways, starting at 7PM Monday, January 26th, and continuing until further notice.
