Historic Deerfield Lecture Series Begins

There will be no hibernating at Historic Deerfield this winter season. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Helen Geier Flynt Textile Gallery, a free winter lecture series, "Textiles and Fashion in Early America", will be held starting on January 25th.  In addition, local Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to earn a merit badge in hearth cooking.

Winter Lecture Series: Textiles and Fashion in Early America, Session 1
January 25, 2PM, at the Deerfield Community Center (16 Memorial Street, Old Deerfield)
This program is free and open to the public.

Historic Deerfield's Collections Manager and Associate Curator of Textiles, David E. (Ned) Lazaro, will present the first lecture, "Exquisite Selections: Masterpieces from the Historic Deerfield Textile Collection", in this 3-part series.  He will give audience members an in-depth look at the Helen Geier Flynt Textile Collection, assembled by Historic Deerfield founders Helen Geier Flynt and Henry N. Flynt, which today numbers some 8,000 objects including clothing, accessories, and domestic textiles.

A Note About Historic Deerfield's Winter Hours

Historic Deerfield's winter hours went into effect on Monday, December 29, 2014. The Flynt Center of Early New England Life will be open Saturdays and Sundays, from 9:30AM to 4:30PM, through April 12, 2015. Visitors can enjoy current exhibitions and "The Museum's Attic" gallery.  The Henry N. Flynt Library will be open Tuesdays through Fridays, from 9AM to Noon and 1PM to 5PM.  The Museum Gift Shop & Bookstore is open every day except Tuesdays, from 10:30AM to 4:30PM.  The museum will resume full hours on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
