Elder Economic Empowerment Seminar Next Week

Adapted from a Northwestern District Attorney’s (NWDA) Office press release:

There are still seats left, as long as you register by September 8th, for the "Elder Economic Empowerment Seminar: Protecting Your Future, Knowledge is Power!" event on September 11th.  It’s free and open to all; the presentation is geared not just toward seniors but toward anyone who works with seniors and is concerned about financial crimes, the latest scams, and why they work.  The seminar will take place at the Northampton Senior Center from 8:30AM to 1PM.

Susan Grant, Director of Consumer Protection and Privacy at the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), a nationally recognized expert on consumer rights (and former NWDA's Office staff member) is among the speakers. In addition, Assistant District Attorney Jayme Parent will discuss how financial crimes against older adults are investigated and prosecuted, U. S. Postal Inspector Brandon Murphy will talk about investigating scams, and Dennis Hohengasser will discuss how to spot and avoid identity theft and fraud.

This event is co-sponsored by Hampshire County Sheriff Robert Garvey, Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan, and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

For more information, please contact Chris Geffin, program director for the NWDA’s Elders and People with Disabilities Unit, at (413) 437-5747.
