Volunteers Needed & Roads Closed for Sunday Triathlon

Adapted From Greenfield Recreation Department press releases:

The Greenfield Recreation Department would like people to know that it still needs volunteers for the 33rd Annual Greenfield Lightlife Triathlon being hosted this Sunday, August 7th, from 8AM to Noon, at the Green River Swimming Area, and that some roads will be closed to accomodate the race.  Over 350 tri-athletes from all over New England and beyond are expected to compete and raise money for the many programs and special events that the recreation department puts on each year.

Volunteers are the cornerstone that makes this event possible. “Without our volunteers we wouldn’t have had a triathlon the past 32 years, and this year is not an exception” states Greenfield Recreation Director Christy Moore. In order to create the greatest triathlon Greenfield has seen to date, there are positions available for volunteers of all ages and talents:  working water stops along the course, registration of competitors, traffic directing, body marking, transition area helpers, and many more.  Every volunteer will receive a free T-shirt as well as lunch!  Please call (413) 772-1553, or go to, to register as a volunteer.

In order to keep both volunteers and participants safe, Nash's Mill Road between Colrain and Leyden Roads and Eunice Williams Drive will be closed for the duration of the triathlon as runners and bicyclists will be racing along Leyden Road up to Eunice Williams Drive and then down Green River Road to both Colrain Road and Plain Road.  In addition, motorists are asked to take caution when driving along the race route during these hours.  Finally, the Green River Swimming and Recreation Area will be closed to public use until 1PM but spectators are welcome!  For further information, please call the Greenfield Recreation Department at 772-1553 or go to

The Green River Swimming Area is located at 1 Nash’s Mill Road.
