It's Blooming Backpacks!

Adapted from a United Way of Franklin County press release:

Women's Way, a program of the United Way of Franklin County, is asking for your help in order to provide backpacks and school supplies to needy children in our area.  Every August, the Women's Way and community supporters gather together at a lovely garden in Historic Old Deerfield to socialize while supporting the needs of local students.  This year's main event will be held on Thursday, August 4th, from 5:30PM to 7PM, and admission is just $5, plus 1 or more backpacks filled with school supplies.

Backpacks can be filled in many ways. Traditionally, an individual donor has taken on the task of buying and filling a backpack.  However, other options include having groups of co-workers or friends collaborate on filling a few bags, asking companies to donate supplies or empty backpacks, starting a school supply drive in the workplace that is open to both employees and customers, and holding a "stuffing party" during which monetary donations are collected so that the United Way can purchase backpacks and/or supplies.  These are just a few ideas and every backpack counts!  No matter how you participate, you will make a difference in the life of a young person. As 1 dad said last year, "not only are the supplies important but you may have just saved the reputation of a child!"

Since the first annual "It's Blooming Backpacks" in 2005, over 2,500 backpacks, with a value of nearly $200,000, have been donated and distributed.  In 2015, nearly 500 backpacks were collected and the Women's Way would like to reach 600 this year!  For more information visit: uw-fc.org/its-blooming-backpacks, call (413) 772-2168, or email info@uw-fc.org.

To RSVP for the August 4th event, please call (413) 772-2168 or email info@uw-fc.org.  The location and address will be given to you once you are confirmed to attend.
