July Events at BFMC

Adapted from Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) press releases:

Our local hospital offers many classes on health related topics, as well as several monthly support groups, at no charge to the public.  In July, there will be an opportunity to learn about a dietary approach to stopping hypertension in addition to meetings for caregivers, stroke survivors, amputees, and their friends and family.

Nutrition Class with Baystate Health Dietitian Alicia Walter, MS, RDN/LDN
A Look at the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension & Low Sodium Eating Plans
Wednesday, July 6th, from 10:15AM to 11:15AM OR 11:30AM to 12:30PM
BFMC Conference Room C

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with an MS in Public Health Nutrition, Ms. Walter has worked as a clinical dietitian and nutrition counselor/educator throughout Baystate Health for the past 12 years. “It is important for people to pay attention to the advice of nutrition experts and how they can best manage their food choices. When they get together in these classes, they can share their experiences and offer support for each other,” said Walter. “I wanted to offer a wide variety of classes, covering all aspects of nutrition, from healthy cooking, to the benefits of the various food groups, to food shopping. There is something in each class offered for everyone.”

Though geared toward Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients, this session is open to the public and participants can attend either timeslot.  In addition, no pre-registration is necessary.  For more information, please email Alicia Walter or call her at (413) 773-2736.

BFMC Emergency Department Nurse Educator and Stroke Coordinator Diane Stephan, RN, BSN, facilitates this group with an intent to provide an atmosphere of caring and cooperation, promote new goals and friendships for stroke survivors and their families and caregivers, and to renew hope and encourage independence.  All stroke survivors, their family members, and caregivers are welcome and pre-registration is not necessary.  For more information, email Diane Stephan or call her at (413) 773-2641.
