News from Your Local United Way

Adapted from a United Way of Franklin County press release:

In addition to donations, our local chapter of the United Way is looking for volunteers to read to children and/or become Court Appointed Special Adovocates (CASA) for them.  A new session of the preschool reading program began earlier this month and there will be a CASA information session in town on Monday.

Preschool Reading Program
Every month, community volunteers read to a preschool classroom and give each child a free copy of the book that was read.  The United Way is proud to continue this popular program that supports early reading skills and builds children's home libraries.  If you would like to be a volunteer reader, please email United Way of Franklin County Executive Director Sandy Sayers or call her at (413) 772-2168.

Ways to Give
Do you know that over 40% of donations raised during the United Way Campaign come from employees giving through a workplace program?  Employees who give $1-$5 each pay period, through payroll deduction, make a big difference in our community.  To learn more, or to start a workplace campaign, please email United Way of Franklin County Director of Resource Development Stephanie Gale or call her at (413) 772-2168.

If you're unable to make a contribution through your workplace, you can still make an impact.  Individual contributions also benefit the 27 United Way Partner Agencies serving individuals and families in Franklin County.  To make a gift today, please visit our website.

CASA Information Session
Friends of Children, a United Way Partner Agency, operates the Franklin/Hampshire County CASA Program and is hosting a 60-minute information session for anyone interested in becoming a CASA volunteer.  It will take place on Monday, September 26th, from 6PM to 7PM, in Greefield.  The event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required.  Bilingual volunteers are especially encouraged to attend.  Please RSVP by calling (413) 586-0011 or emailing
