Gun Safety & Shooting Course in Deerfield

Adapted from a Franklin County Sportsmen's Club (FCSC) press release:

On Sunday, March 19th, from 9AM until 6PM, the National Rifle Association (NRA) Phase 2 Basic Pistol Shooting Course will be offered at the Franklin County Sportsmen's Club. Please note that Massachusetts does not currently accept this course as a qualifying class for a MA License to Carry (LTC) but it is appropriate for those looking for live fire pistol instruction from an NRA certified instructor.

During this session, which will last from 5 to 8 hours depending on student needs, you will learn: firearm and range safety; shooting fundamentals; loading, cocking, de-cocking, and unloading; pistol maintenance (cleaning, storage, etc.); shooting performance; and shooting qualification.  This course is devoted to one-on-one, hands-on instruction, which includes ample live fire training using a variety of handguns, including single and double-action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

Successful completion of the NRA Phase 1 Basic Pistol Shooting Course is required prior to taking this class.  In addition, the FCSC requires appropriate dress for the range (no open-toed shoes or tank tops).  Participants should bring hearing and eye protection if they have it.  If they don't, the instructor can loan them protection for the day.

The cost for this training is $125, which includes ammunition, targets, and range fees.

1.) You must complete Phase 1, the "classroom" portion, of the Basic Pistol Course online at and print out your certificate.  You have 90 days from the date of Phase 1 completion to take Phase 2.

2.) Send in the Basic Pistol Phase 2 course application, along with a printout showing completeion of Phase 1, and your check or money order (made out to "FCSC") to FCSC, Attn: Basic Pistol, P.O. Box 716, Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Cancellation policy: Once your enrollment date is confirmed, you must notify the instructor no later than 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend the entire scheduled class. Class fees may be forfeited for no shows.

Please email instructor Mike Gobeille with any questions.
