Reading Frederick Douglass live on WMCB July 1
Listen to Historic Frederick Douglass Speech All July
Greenfield Community Television and WMCB will join communities across Massachusetts in celebrating the enduring legacy of abolitionist, writer, and orator Frederick Douglass through a live on-air reading of one of his historic speeches on Tuesday, July 1 at 5:00 p.m.
The event is part of the statewide Reading Frederick Douglass Together initiative, which encourages communities to engage with Douglass's words and their continued relevance to contemporary conversations about democracy, freedom, and civic participation.
During the broadcast, station volunteers will take turns reading the speech live on air. Following the reading, listeners will be invited to call into the station and participate in a community discussion reflecting on the themes and significance of Douglass's work.
A limited number of in-person participation opportunities remain available for those interested in joining the reading at the station. Community members who would like to participate are encouraged to contact Greenfield Community Television for more information.
The program will be recorded and rebroadcast throughout the month of July, and will also be made available online through the station's website, allowing community members to engage with the event beyond the live broadcast.
This event is supported through the Reading Frederick Douglass Together grant program, with funding provided by Mass Humanities and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Greenfield Community Television extends its gratitude to both organizations for helping make this community conversation possible.
